Strengthening Mutual Respect Between the Bar and the Bench: A Call for Balance and Civility.  At the 2025 Nigerian Bar Association Lokoja Branch Law Week, Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, delivered a thought provoking speech during the panel session on “ Mutual Respect Between the Bar and the Bench: Challenges and Prospects.” He reminded the legal community that the challenges facing the Bar Bench relationship cannot be laid at the feet of any single person. As he put it, “ No singular lawyer is the problem; the problem is all of us.” His words carried a sober reminder that the duty to restore civility and respect within the profession lies on both sides. Aare Akinboro noted that many practicing lawyers will one day ascend to the Bench, and when that time comes, they must embody compassion and civility in their dealings with counsel. Conversely, Judges in their exalted roles must also extend the same courtesy and fairness to lawyers. Mutual respec...

In Defence of the Rule of Law: NBA Lagos Branch and Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, Stand Firm Against Oppression.  When institutions stray from the path of legality, the responsibility of lawyers as guardians of justice becomes even more pronounced.  In recent days, the Nigerian Navy’s illegal designation of Vice Admiral Dada Olaniyi Labinjo (Rtd.) as a "deserter" has stirred deep concern across the legal community and beyond. What ought to be an institution that exemplifies discipline and respect for lawful authority has instead, by this act, descended into contempt for the judiciary and the Rule of Law. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch, under the leadership of Uchenna Ogunedo Akingbade, Esq., rose swiftly and firmly to condemn the Navy’s actions.  In a detailed press statement, the Branch made it clear that the classification of Vice Admiral Labinjo as a deserter was not only false but also contemptuous of the judgment of the National Industria...

On 9th September 2025, Barrister Mbah was supervising a property he manages at Aco Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, when he was violently harassed, abducted, and detained by officers of the NSCDC, Sauka Headquarters. Instead of pursuing the agent, the officer abused his office to unlawfully arrest and detain Barrister Mbah. Despite repeated demands by the NBA Nyanya-Karu Branch Leaders, no written complaint was ever pre...

Origins of Justice: The Aura of Leadership

Image
Origins of Justice: The Aura of Leadership.  The Annual General Conference in Enugu was a mosaic of ideas, voices, and innovations.  Yet, beyond the panels and debates, one figure seemed to weave it all together without raising his voice. Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN was not simply present, he was felt. His calm strength, his quiet charisma, and his unmistakable aura turned ordinary moments into reminders of what true leadership looks like. In a gathering defined by intellect and spectacle, it was his presence that lingered when the curtains drew. It was a vision translated into reality, where the Bar’s legacy met its future, and where conversations carried the ease of belonging.
