Zaria Bar Hosts Aare Akinboro SAN in Engaging Session on Grassroots Legal Reform
In a notable demonstration of unity within the legal profession, Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, visited the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Zaria Branch—fondly known as The Academic Bar—during his official trip to Kaduna State.

The Senior Advocate, accompanied by his team, was warmly received by Dr. M.T. Jibril, Chairman of the Zaria Branch, members of the Branch Executive, and a large gathering of lawyers. The Chairman described the visit as a historic moment, recognizing Akinboro’s unwavering commitment to advancing the legal profession, particularly in mentoring young lawyers and strengthening the NBA across all tiers.
Key Highlights of the Interactive Session:
1. The Role of Mentorship in Legal Development
Akinboro underscored mentorship as essential for shaping future lawyers. He proposed the establishment of structured mentorship systems within NBA branches to guide young lawyers not only in courtroom advocacy but also in professional ethics, critical thinking, and resilience. The idea received enthusiastic support from members of the Zaria Bar.
2. Continuing Legal Education (CLE) for Professional Growth
Akinboro advocated for consistent, hands-on CLE programs tailored to evolving areas like technology law, arbitration, compliance, and global legal practice. He encouraged the Zaria Branch to prioritize CLE as a key annual activity and ensure its relevance to practical challenges lawyers face.
3. Young Lawyers’ Welfare
A deeply passionate segment of the discussion focused on the plight of young lawyers—highlighting issues of poor pay, job insecurity, and workplace exploitation. Akinboro reaffirmed his support for the 2023 Legal Practitioners’ Remuneration Order (LPRO) and urged branches to drive its awareness and implementation, pushing for fair and dignified working conditions for all legal practitioners.
4. Strengthening Bar–Branch Collaboration
Akinboro called for stronger collaboration between the national NBA leadership and its branches. Emphasizing that branches are the NBA’s backbone, he urged local leaders to actively engage, share feedback, and influence national policies to drive meaningful change from the grassroots.

During his visit, Akinboro also met with Honourable Justice Kabir Dabo of the Kaduna State High Court, Zaria Division, who commended the SAN’s dedication to uplifting the legal profession.
