Tribute to His Holiness, Pope Francis
By Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN
It is with deep sorrow that I join the global community especially our Catholic brothers and sisters within the legal Profession in mourning the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis.

According to the Vatican, Pope Francis peacefully passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at 7:35 a.m., at the Domus Sanctae Marthae residence. Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, confirmed his transition, noting the Pope’s unwavering devotion to the Church, the Gospel, and humanity at large. The Vatican praised his enduring compassion, moral courage, and his steadfast commitment to the poor and the marginalized.

Pope Francis was more than a spiritual leader, he was a global conscience. Through his words and actions, he reminded us that justice must be rooted in mercy, and that the law, at its best, must serve the dignity of every person.

To all Catholic members of the Bar who make up the National Association of Catholic Lawyers (NACL) and the wider legal family, I extend my heartfelt condolences.

May the legacy of His Holiness continue to inspire us to lead with integrity, humility, and compassion.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
