IN THE PRESENCE OF LEGACY: AARE OLUMUYIWA AKINBORO, SAN AND THE CALL TO BAR OF A NEW GENERATION.
The atmosphere at the 2025 Call to Bar Ceremony was nothing short of majestic, an ocean of black robes, buzzing anticipation, and history in motion. Yet, among the sea of hopeful new wigs, one figure stood as a symbol of enduring service, towering legacy, and unwavering commitment to the legal profession: Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN.

Clad in the distinguished robes of a Life Bencher, Akinboro moved through the hall not just with grace, but with the full weight of decades of service to justice, the rule of law, and the Nigerian Bar. His presence was more than ceremonial, it was symbolic. It reminded everyone in that room that law is not merely a profession, but a lifelong calling built on integrity, mentorship, and sacrifice.

As a Life Bencher, Aare Akinboro plays a crucial role in one of the most sacred responsibilities of the legal profession: the Call to Bar. This is not just a rite of passage for new lawyers, but a solemn moment of consecration, where the torch of justice is passed from one generation to the next. With every step, every handshake, every glance, he represents the conscience of the Bar and the custodianship of its finest traditions.

In his own journey from a young lawyer to Past General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, and now a Life Bencher and respected legal statesman, Akinboro embodies the values every new entrant must aspire to, discipline, courage, wisdom, and relentless service.

His attendance at this year’s Call to Bar was also a statement of solidarity with the next generation. In a time of evolving legal landscapes, shifting professional expectations, and national uncertainty, his presence offered the one thing every young lawyer desperately needs: reassurance that the path of law, though demanding, is noble, necessary, and deeply rewarding.

In his brief interaction with the new wigs, Akinboro reminded them:

“You are not just being called to the Bar; you are being called to responsibility, to courage, and to the defense of justice no matter the cost.”

The moment was made even more memorable by the heartfelt words of the Best Graduating Student, Mr. Oluwabusayo Ifonlaja, who remarked:

"What better role model could we possibly ask for than Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, a Life Bencher, Past General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, and a symbol of enduring integrity in our profession. His journey is proof that excellence is not an event, but a life lived in service of justice.
Today, I am inspired not just by his words, but by the legacy he continues to build."
As the 2025 bar entrants take their first steps into the legal world, they do so in the shadow of giants. And among those giants stands Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, ever steadfast, ever committed, ever inspiring.
