Leadership, Responsibility, and the Call to Justice: A Reflection from the FIDA Abuja Law Week Opening

Leadership, Responsibility, and the Call to Justice: A Reflection from the FIDA Abuja Law Week Opening.

At the 2025 FIDA Abuja Law Week opening ceremony, Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN delivered a goodwill message rooted in values that guide every serious member of the legal profession, responsibility, ethical leadership, and service to humanity.

Referencing the creation story in Genesis 1 and 2, Aare highlighted a principle that sits at the foundation of justice: every human being carries inherent dignity and value. This truth is not about gender, politics, or preference, it is about the shared identity that compels us as lawyers to uphold fairness, protect rights, and strengthen the society we serve.

Aare’s reflections were not directed at one group or demographic.
They were a reminder to all legal professionals, men and women across every branch, that leadership begins with character and ends with service.

He emphasized that:

Justice requires responsibility.

Leadership requires humility.

Progress requires collective effort.

And the legal community thrives when we uphold values that unite, not divide.

Aare acknowledged FIDA Abuja’s longstanding work in supporting families, promoting justice, and strengthening the legal ecosystem. His message aligned with the broader professional duty we all share, to build institutions that reflect fairness, discipline, and compassion.

His goodwill was consistent with his engagements across the nation:
showing up, supporting branches, and reinforcing the core values of the Bar.

In a profession facing rapid change, Aare’s charge was simple:
return to the fundamentals, dignity, duty, and service.

This is the kind of leadership the Bar needs:
steady, principled, non divisive, and deeply focused on strengthening the collective.
