NBA Nyanya-Karu Branch Officials Head to Court Over Interpretation of Social Secretary’s Powers.
The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, is set to hear a suit involving members of the Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nyanya-Karu Branch, over the interpretation of the powers and functions of the Branch’s Social Secretary.
The suit, instituted by Chiemela Ozioma Amalaha Esq, the Social Secretary of the Branch, is brought against Alexander Ebi Edim Esq, Chairman of the NBA Nyanya-Karu Branch, and Henry Ebu Tawo Esq, Chairman of the 2026 Law Week Committee.
According to the Originating Summons, the Applicant is seeking judicial clarification on the provisions of the NBA Uniform Bye-Laws 2015 (as amended in 2025), particularly as they relate to the responsibilities of the Social Secretary in organising and coordinating social activities of the Branch.
The suit also raises questions as to whether the Respondents possess the authority to remove, replace, or restrict the Social Secretary from performing her official functions, including participation in planning committees for Branch events.
In addition, the Applicant is challenging her alleged exclusion from the 2025 Law Dinner Planning Committee and the 2026 Law Week Planning Committee, as well as the reassignment of her duties to another individual.
In a Motion on Notice filed alongside the substantive suit, the Applicant is seeking an interlocutory injunction restraining the Respondents from taking further steps in respect of the Nyanya-Karu Law Week programme pending the determination of the case.
The matter has been scheduled for hearing on the 15th of April 2026.
