NBA Abuja Law Week 2026 Continues With High-Level Conversation On Electoral Justice And Constitutionalism Ahead of 2027 Elections.
As Nigeria gradually approaches another electoral cycle, conversations surrounding constitutionalism, electoral credibility, institutional accountability, and the protection of democratic values continue to dominate public discourse. Against this backdrop, the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch (Unity Bar), is set to host another critical session at its 2026 Law Week focused on the future of Nigeria’s democracy and the rule of law.
Scheduled as Day 2, Session 2 of the ongoing Law Week, the session is themed: “Upholding Constitutionalism: Electoral Justice and the Rule of Law in the 2027 Elections.”
The conversation is expected to bring together distinguished legal practitioners, governance experts, election stakeholders, and public policy advocates to examine the role of the law and democratic institutions in safeguarding free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria.
Leading the session as Chairman is renowned legal luminary, Ambassador Assam Assam, SAN, while respected democracy advocate and policy expert, Mr. Clement Nwankwo, is billed to speak alongside an accomplished panel featuring H.E. Mohammed A. Abubakar, SAN; Hon. Obo O. Effanga; Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi; and Kemi Okenyodo.
Organisers say the session is designed to provoke meaningful dialogue around constitutional governance, electoral accountability, judicial integrity, civic participation, and the challenges confronting Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In recent years, debates surrounding electoral reforms, judicial pronouncements, constitutional interpretation, and public trust in democratic processes have remained central to national conversations. This session is therefore expected to provide an important platform for robust engagement on how legal and institutional frameworks can better protect democracy and strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
The session is scheduled to hold on Thursday, 21st May 2026 by 1:00 PM Prompt at the NBA Headquarters, Central Business District, Abuja.
